Progress to Celebrate

  • Significant progress has occurred toward creating a bi-county Advanced Traffic Management System which uses technology to make our roadways more efficient.

  • The update of the 2030 Long Range Transportation plan was completed, involving two counties and nine cities.  The plan reflects sensible solutions despite funding constraints.

  • The role of public transportation has become more significant in discussion of redevelopment concepts, land-use planning and mobility issues.

  • A feasibility study for a north-south route east of I-75 has begun.

  • Last year, funds were not diverted for other State purposes from Florida’s Transportation Trust Fund.

  • Federal transportation legislation (2005) mandates an increase in the percentage of collected federal fuel taxes returned to each State.

Future Opportunities

  • More community discussion is needed on regional mobility issues.

  • Public transportation planning must continue to be part of land use discussions.

  • Continued advocacy is needed to insure the State’s Transportation Trust Fund is used only for transportation purposes
