Timothy Dutton, Executive Director
Mr. Timothy
Dutton has been with SCOPE since its inception in March 2001.
He currently supervises eight full and part time staff members
as they work to engage the community. He is passionate about
increasing the number and diversity of the voices that are being
heard.
Mr. Dutton
previously served as Executive Director of the Human Services
Planning Association, SCOPE’s predecessor organization, and was
the administrator of Hôpital Albert Schweitzer Hospital in
Deschapelles, Haiti. He also served as an election observer for
the Haitian presidential elections in 1995 and for the
congressional elections in 2000. Tim was the president of a
hospital in Shelby, Ohio and was selected a fellow under the
Kellogg National Fellowship from 1986-1989.
Suzanne
Gregory, Associate Director
Suzanne
Gregory has also been with SCOPE since its inception in 2001.
Her responsibilities include working with the community study
process, developing new engagement initiatives, and working with
volunteers to help create community change. She currently
facilitates the Aging: the Possibilities initiative and
previously facilitated the Traffic Flow & Congestion and
Community Change: Redevelopment and Infill studies. Prior to
working with SCOPE, Suzanne worked as a trainer, facilitator,
and program analyst with the Department of Children & Families.
She is a graduate of Wheaton College with a B.A. in Psychology.
Suzanne grew
up in Rhode Island and moved to Sarasota in 1978. She enjoys
Sarasota because it is a small coastal town with urban
qualities. She serves on the Board of the Sarasota County Civic
League and the St. Boniface Foundation for Outreach grants
committee, and is a parent volunteer for Florida Odyssey of the
Mind. She was a member of the Leadership Sarasota County Class
of 2005. She and her husband have one daughter and she enjoys
reading and creative writing.
Maureen Hadden, Administrative Assistant
Maureen has been with SCOPE since
its inception in 2001 and she is the “glue” that holds the rest
of the staff together. Her main responsibilities include
general administrative duties. She is likely the first person
you will meet when you stop by our office.
Maureen moved to Florida 13 years
ago to be close to her parents who live in North Port. She
previously lived in Pennsylvania, Oklahoma, and Indiana. She
enjoys the small town feel of Sarasota. In her spare time, she
enjoys traveling with her husband, walking, and watching movies.
Jake Thomas, Director of
Community Information
Jake began as an intern in 2001
while he was completing his B.A. in Economics and Spanish from
New College of Florida. Jake currently is the primary
coordinator of the Race and Cultural Relations initiative and is
co-coordinator of the community arts project. His past work at
SCOPE includes organizing community data and helping with the
Mental Health and School Dropout Implementation efforts.
Like his co-workers, Jake enjoys
the small town atmosphere that Sarasota affords. In the
evenings, Jake is an English as a Second Language instructor for
Adult and Community Education. When not working he can be found
cooking for friends, enjoying nature, filming, editing and
sharing videos of his adventures.
Catherine Clouse, Community
Researcher
Catherine joined SCOPE in 2003 as
part of the Mental Health and School Dropout Implementation Task
Forces. She managed the 2004-05 and 2005-06 Community Report
Cards and she is currently managing the CRC re-evaluation
process. She has also been instrumental in providing background
support for the All America City Award applications in 2004,
2005, and 2006. Catherine graduated from New College of Florida
with a B.A. in Political Science.
Catherine, born and raised in
Ohio, enjoys the community feel that Sarasota offers. Her
hobbies include gardening, reading, watching movies, exploring
history, learning languages and following politics around the
world. She volunteers as a Big Sister with Manatee County Big
Brothers Big Sisters, is on the board of the newly-formed Young
Professionals for International Cooperation and is a member of
the Sarasota Succulent Society.
Joe
Naroditsky, Director of Neighborhood Initiatives
Joe’s active
role in community development research while in college led to
his present position at SCOPE. Joe helps neighborhoods identify
their strengths and use them to build stronger relationships
within the neighborhood. He also works on the Aging: The
Possibilities initiative and facilitated the Family Violence
Implementation efforts. Joe is a graduate of New College of
Florida, where he earned a B.A. in Anthropology.
Joe also
teaches Hebrew language and cultural studies at Martin and
Mildred Paver Religious School. Originally from Miami, Joe likes
Sarasota because there is a diverse array of places to eat and
socialize downtown, and he can easily walk to the bayfront.
With a strong passion for cultural diversity, Joe is fluent in
English and Spanish and also proficient in Russian, Hebrew, and
Italian. In his spare time Joe enjoys
playing basketball and
Ultimate Frisbee.
Danielle Beiling, Community Researcher
Starting as an intern in the summer of 2005, Danielle researched
background information for the Race and Cultural Relations
initiative and aided in data collection efforts. After receiving
her B.A. in Anthropology/Sociology from New College of Florida
in 2006, Danielle became a full-time staff member. She
concentrates on the Aging: the Possibilities initiative
and helps to implement Asset Based Community Development work in
area neighborhoods.
Danielle appreciates Sarasota’s beauty and enjoys being involved
with others to make Sarasota a better place to live. When not at
SCOPE, Danielle can be found participating in outdoor
activities, enjoying and creating art, and relaxing with friends
and family. She has volunteered for area AIDS organizations by
promoting community involvement and awareness. She hopes to
begin a Master’s degree program in the Fall of 2007.
Lynn Hobeck Bates, Director of
Communications
Lynn joined SCOPE in 2005 and is
responsible for public relations, marketing, event planning, and
development. She graduated from James Madison University with
at B.S. in Psychology and from Vanderbilt University with a
M.Ed. in Higher Education.
Originally from Richmond,
Virginia, Lynn worked in higher education administration and was
a research assistant for mental health issues at the Vanderbilt
Institute for Public Policy Studies. Lynn enjoys the sunshine
and the size of Sarasota. In her spare time, she enjoys
running, reading, traveling, trying new activities, and spending
time with family and friends. Lynn volunteers with YPG,
Florida Public Relations Association and various other
non-profits around the area.
Stacey
Laidlaw, Grassroots Leadership Initiative Coordinator
Stacey joined
GLI in the fall of 2005. GLI, a partnership of USF, United Way
of Sarasota County, SCOPE, and the Herald Tribune Media Group.
She is responsible for organizing workshops and networking
sessions, fundraising, maintaining communication with Fellows,
Mentors and Steering Committee members, and outreach efforts to
the general public. She graduated from the University of
Central Florida with a B.A. in Psychology.
Stacey grew up
in Sarasota and returned to the area after teaching and
missionary work in Orlando and Nigeria. Sarasota appeals to her
because it is small enough to see the positive impact of one
caring person, or a group of caring citizens. In her spare
time she enjoys singing, playing the violin, reading, cooking
and entertaining family and friends, and helping others.
She volunteers at Grace Community Church as a Pre-Kindergarten
teacher and will begin mentoring middle school youth in the
fall.
April
Doner-Guarneri, Intern
April is a
part-time staff member of SCOPE. She primarily works on the Race
and Cultural Relations initiative, specifically on the
development of the new Coalition for Inclusion and Diversity.
April is a recent graduate of New College of Florida with a
B.A. in Sociology.
Before coming to
SCOPE, April was an intern for the Farm Labor Organizing
Committee (FLOC) and an English tutor. Originally from
Florida’s east coast, April enjoys being in Sarasota because
there are many people willing to invest time, energy, and
resources to make the community realize its truly immense
potential as a center of creativity, social connection, and
diversity. When not at work, she enjoys art, writing,
literature, dance, cooking, Buddhism, travel, and discovering
new cultures and social realities. |
